The book landed behind him with a clatter, pages bent but spine intact. Another dead end theory. Tyki dragged his hands down his face before he pillowed his head in his arms. Books lay scattered around him on the table. The flickering of the candles caught the runed edges of the tome flashing faint blues, greens, and purples across the room.

How many theories had he gone through? How many ideas had he abandoned?

A shift of wind caused a flickering candle glinted off the edges of a bracelet propped up a set of haphazardly stacked books. It mocked him. A potential solution to his problem. One riddled with warning and maybes, but a solution all the same. Tyki lifted his head to look at the trinket.

“Am I really going to bet it all on you?”

It twinkled at him. Mostly mocking. He frowned.

“Can you really save them both?”

“.....”

“....”

“Now I’m talking to inanimate objects. Honestly.”

Tyki pushed himself up leaning forward on the desk with his both hands. He scowled. It had to be possible to save both of them. He wouldn’t settle for anything less. Unfortunately, the expertise of the Earl was enslaving souls not healing him. And Tyki didn’t believe for a moment he was one tenth the expert the Earl was in that area. His attempts at making Akuma….

He shook his head and picked up the bracelet holding it between his fingers.

“Will a warning be enough? No. But you can’t make matters worse, can you?”

Silence was his answer.

Tyki pocketed the item and picked up his hat. He placed it on his head letting his fingers slide over the brim.

“Let’s see if I can avoid killing an Exorcist on accident today.”

Kicking books aside as he left the candles to burn down to their wicks.

“Or two.”
